Artists Wanted
A significant challenge many church planters face is bringing artists to the new church. Many church planters highly value the arts and desire to incorporate arts into worship. But not being artists themselves, building relationships with artists can be a challenge. Here’s one idea to help initiate these relationships: Craigslist. Every church planter has the immediate graphic arts needs. There’s a need for branding, fund raising brochures, business cards, letterhead, etc. Frequently, this work is outsourced to Christian designers and marketing firms. But church planters should think missionally about everything. Why not go local and post the your design needs on Craigslist. Here’s what you gain:
- A local artist who understands the community.
- An unchurched person who understands the target audience.
- An opportunity to pour finances back into the local economy.
- An opportunity to build a relationship with a local artist.
Post your needs on Craigslist and as artists respond, invite them to bring their portfolio and meet you for a cup of coffee. Share with them the vision for the church as you discuss your design needs. Allow enough time for several artists to respond before choosing one. This will give you the opportunity to connect with several artists in your area.
